Developing an integrated marine-energy platform
Pliosaur Energy is developing a floating marine renewable-energy platform intended to generate electricity from tidal streams, ocean waves or both resources together.
The platform combines a semi-submersible structure, a horizontal-axis turbine, a wave-overtopping reservoir and a modular electrical and mooring architecture.
Water entering the overtopping reservoir must first pass through a collection screen. This creates an opportunity to intercept floating plastic waste and other marine debris during normal platform operation.
The objective is to develop a commercially practical marine renewable-energy system with a low-profile floating architecture, accessible maintenance arrangements and reduced reliance on permanent seabed infrastructure.
Research foundations
Building on measured engineering research
The tidal-energy aspect of Pliosaur's development draws on principles investigated through HYLOW, an EU-funded research programme coordinated by the University of Southampton.
HYLOW developed and field-tested a large-scale floating Free Stream Energy Converter under river conditions in Germany. The programme produced measured information relating to power production, hydrodynamic performance, stability and environmental interaction.
The wave-energy aspect draws on research associated with Wave Dragon, a floating overtopping wave-energy converter that progressed through laboratory development and grid-connected scale-prototype testing.
These programmes provide useful technical evidence and research precedent. They do not remove the need for Pliosaur's complete integrated platform to undergo its own detailed modelling, testing, certification and full-scale validation.

Integrating wave and tidal conversion
Pliosaur's proprietary platform combines tidal-stream and overtopping wave-energy conversion through a shared turbine rotor.
In tidal mode, the surrounding current passes through the rotor. In wave mode, water stored above the surrounding sea level returns through the same rotor under a hydrostatic head.
The platform can also operate with both energy sources acting together. This integrated arrangement is intended to increase the range of useful energy available at suitable marine sites without requiring separate tidal and wave turbines.
The system incorporates additional developments in structural configuration, flow management, sealing, mooring, electrical export and debris recovery.
Development pathway
Progressing towards commercial validation
Pliosaur Energy remains a technology-development company. The integrated platform has not yet reached commercial operation.
The development programme requires further engineering, numerical modelling, physical testing and independent validation before a commercial-scale project can proceed.
Future deployment will also depend on site identification, environmental assessment, regulatory consent, supply-chain agreements, grid access, project finance and appropriate commercial partnerships.
Each stage is intended to reduce technical, environmental and commercial uncertainty before progressing to the next level of expenditure.
Commercial opportunity
Multiple potential routes to market
The platform is being developed for application in suitable coastal, estuarine and tidal locations where wave or current resources can support electricity generation.
Potential commercial routes include company-developed projects, technology licensing, joint development with infrastructure partners and integration with existing offshore-energy assets.
The modular architecture is intended to allow generating capacity to increase by connecting additional turbine sections as projects expand.
Commercial performance will ultimately depend on site resource, generating yield, capital cost, operating cost, availability, project life, consenting requirements and the value of the electricity produced.

Building a community around the technology
Pliosaur Energy is developing supporter programmes intended to increase awareness of marine renewable energy and help fund continued company and technology development.
These programmes include sponsorship and Marine Energy Certificates. They should be understood separately from shares or other ownership interests in Pliosaur Energy.
Marine Energy Certificates are intended to represent a conditional allocation of future electricity matching, measured in kilowatt-hours. Sponsorship provides promotional or supporter benefits according to the applicable agreement.

Future regulated investment opportunities
Pliosaur Energy may explore future opportunities for eligible investors to participate in the company's development.
Any such opportunity would be offered only through an appropriate legal and regulatory structure, with the required documentation, risk information, eligibility checks and professional approvals.
