Investment overview
Pliosaur Energy is developing an innovative marine renewable energy platform that combines wave and tidal energy generation within a single floating system. In addition to generating renewable electricity, the turbine is designed to utilise its overtopping flows to help capture floating marine debris, combining renewable energy generation with ocean clean-up. Our ambition is to establish a new generation of marine renewable energy technology with low visual impact, strong environmental performance and the potential for deployment in suitable coastal locations around the world.
For the tidal energy conversion system, we have adapted the Free Stream Energy Converter (FSEC) researched by the University of Southampton as part of the HYLOW project, which utilised floating watermill technology developed more than 100 years ago. This system has achieved a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 9. Meanwhile, the wave overtopping aspect of our design draws from research at Aalborg University, Denmark, and has been implemented in the Wave Dragon turbine, which has reached TRL 5. The Wave Dragon turbine design was patented in 1995 at the European Patent Office (EP0767876B1), but this protection expired after its 20-year term.
Our patented innovation integrates these two proven systems through a single rotor and sealing system, creating a unique marine renewable energy platform.
Commercially, Pliosaur Energy combines low visual impact, industry-leading environmental performance and internationally protected intellectual property with a technology designed to harness both wave and tidal energy. Unlike conventional marine renewable energy systems, the Pliosaur turbine is also designed to utilise its overtopping flows to help capture floating marine debris, combining renewable energy generation with ocean clean-up. As the company progresses towards commercial deployment, we intend to build a community of supporters through Marine Energy Certificates (MECs) and Sponsorship, while exploring future regulated investment opportunities that may enable our community to participate in the company's long-term growth, subject to the appropriate legal and regulatory framework.
